Barton Health Foundation Board of Trustees
As a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, the Barton Health Foundation is governed by an 18-member Board of Trustees who provide organizational oversight. Primary responsibilities of the board include ensuring a sustainable future by adopting sound ethical and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as making sure the organization continues to fulfill its’ primary mission of advancing healthcare in our community through philanthropy.
Executive Director – Chris Kiser
Kiser joined the Barton Health Foundation in September 2019. An experienced fundraising professional, Kiser holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science degree. He enjoys tennis, skiing, and fly-fishing, and is active in the many outdoor activities Tahoe has to offer. Chris and his wife, Cheri, a teacher at South Lake Tahoe Middle School, are the parents of two grown children. They reside in South Lake Tahoe with their spoiled Goldendoodle.

Meet the 2023 Barton Health Foundation Board of Trustees

A second-generation member of the board of trustees (her father, Dan Norman, MD, is also a member), Melanie earned her Juris Doctorate degree from UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law. She and her husband, David, both longtime residents of Tahoe, are the parents of 2 girls and 1 son. Melanie enjoys spending time with her family, wake surfing, skiing, snowboarding, golf, working out, hiking and gardening. She enjoys volunteering and giving back to the community.

Having personally witnessed many changes since her arrival at Barton Health in 1983, Diane currently serves as Barton Health’s Customer Service and Collections Manager. She met the man of her dreams, Kevin Kinney, and the couple were married at the Bettencourt Estate in 2000. She is the proud parent of Button, her German Shepherd. Diane enjoys socializing with her many friends, as well as singing Bee Gee’s songs in the shower!

Shannan is a native of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. A registered nurse, she holds Bachelor of Science degrees from both Michigan State University and the University of Nevada, Reno. Shannan moved to Tahoe in 199 and began her career as an RN at Barton Health in 2002. She has two girls, ages 12 and 14, and together, they enjoy skiing, horseback riding, water skiing, camping, paddleboarding and trips to the ocean.

Wendy has been coming to Lake Tahoe with her family since 1979. Prior to moving to Glenbrook, Nevada full-time in 2018, she lived in the Bay Area with her husband, Phil and her two daughters, Katharine and Elizabeth for several years.
Wendy graduated from University of Redlands with a BA in Speech and Language Pathology and Psychology and from Harvard Divinity School with an MA in Theological Studies. She spent her career working at Ketchum, a large communications firm in San Francisco and retired as SVP of Global Human Resources. Not ready to completely retire, she became a Coach working with executives and families.
Wendy joined Barton Foundation in 2019 as a trustee and has enjoyed working with all board members and staff. She loves all that Lake Tahoe has to offer including hiking, golfing, water sports, pickleball and working out with the guidance of the athletic trainers at the Barton Wellness Center. What she enjoys most is hosting gatherings with her two daughters, extended family and friends.

A native of New York City, Saul attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a BS degree in Marketing and a minor in American History. He enjoyed a long career in the sales, marketing and business development profession. He and his wife, Teri, are the parents of four grown children, and they have ten grandchildren, the oldest of whom was born at Barton Health. The couple is active in real estate investing along with operating several other business ventures. Saul and Teri enjoy the Lake Tahoe region, particularly the easy access to mountains, lakes and skiing.
In his spare time, Saul enjoys skiing, long distance road biking, boating, and wine tasting. An avid reader, he enjoys spending time with his extended family, particularly the grandchildren.

A retired pharmacy tech and 33-year resident of Tahoe, Julie is a registered yoga teacher. She has one grown child, and her hobbies include hiking, skiing, mountain biking and paddleboarding. She enjoys spending quality time with her significant other, Bill Killebrew.

Meghan joined the Barton Health Foundation Board of Trustees in 2023. She has been employed in the healthcare industry in a variety of capacities since 2003, including a leadership role in Market Development and Strategy at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA. Currently, she works for LeanTaas, a healthcare start-up company, as part of the Customer Engagement Team.

Kathleen Holoyda, MD, is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Barton Health. Along with her husband John T. Elliott, M.D., and their son, the family recently relocated to Lake Tahoe for the wonderful outdoor opportunities, as well as to broaden the services provided to the community by Barton Health.
Kathleen, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, earned both her undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Thomas Jefferson University; her Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Utah; and a Microsurgery Fellowship at the University of Chicago.
She enjoys Triathlons, mountain biking, hiking and running, as well as spending time with their Bernese Mountain dog and two cats.

The longest-tenured member of the Barton Health Board of Trustees (2008), Melissa brings a great deal of institutional knowledge to the Foundation. She and her husband, Jess, have resided in Zephyr Cove, NV for 21 years. A graduate of Robert Morris University, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native enjoyed a long career with Coldwell Banker Real Estate. The couple has 2 grown sons and 2 grandchildren. Melissa enjoys tennis, hiking, fly fishing, kayaking and skiing, as well as socializing with their many friends in Tahoe.

Originally from Auckland, New Zealand, Angela trained as an RN at Auckland Hospital. She was an RN for 36 years – 27 of them at Barton Health – before retiring in 2010. She and her husband, Gary, have 2 grown children, and 1 grandchild. Angela has devoted countless hours to the Barton Health Foundation in a variety of capacities. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, entertaining, gardening, skiing, hiking with her Border Collie, Badger, travel, and paddleboarding.

Dan Norman, M.D., who recently retired after a 40-plus year career in medicine, joined the Barton Health Foundation Board of Trustees in 1991, viewing his board participation as an opportunity to serve as a liaison between Barton Health physicians and the Board of Trustees. Specializing in gastroenterology, he started working with Barton Health patients in 1980, and has served as Chief of Staff on two separate occasions; Vice Chief of Staff for two terms; Medical Director for Medicine Services; and Medical Director for Gastroenterology.

Jeffrey A. Orr, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, joined the Barton Health Foundation board in 2020. He is expanding access to care at Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine with additional operative and non-operative services for patients’ orthopedic and sports medicine needs.
Dr. Orr received his medical doctorate from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He conducted his orthopedic surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He completed his fellowship training at the University of South Florida. He’s an affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Dr. Orr is from South Lake Tahoe. His interests include running, water-skiing, snow-skiing, surfing, whitewater rafting, golf, tennis, soccer, hockey, softball, and cooking.

A native of Los Angeles, Victor graduated from United States International University with a degree in Business Administration and Economics. Officially retired as of December 31, 2021, Victor and his wife, Barbara, moved to Tahoe full-time in 2020 after many years in the Bay Area. They have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren, with 2 new additions to the family scheduled in 2022. Victor enjoys golf, tennis, playing cards, keeping up with all sports, and being involved in the community.

Marsha enjoyed a 35-year career at Heavenly Ski Resort, after studying advertising art, merchandising and window display at Santa Rosa Junior College. Utilizing her resort retail experience, Marsha has spent countless hours as an invaluable volunteer for the Barton Health Foundation. She enjoys creative challenges and all craft-type hobbies. Notably, Marsha has resided in Tahoe since 1956!

A native of South Lake Tahoe and a graduate of South Tahoe High School, Ruby attended Humphreys College and the University of the Pacific. Retired after 33 years as Director of Hotel Operations at several local casinos, Ruby has 2 grown children and 5 fabulous grandchildren! Her hobbies include camping, hiking, boating and Pilates.

Clint Purvance, MD, serves as Barton Health’s President and CEO. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from UNLV, and his MD degree from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Clint and his wife, Shawna, and their children have resided in Tahoe since 1999. In his spare time, he enjoys all mountain and lake activities.
