Family Birthing Center

For years, the Barton Health Foundation has played a vital role in advancing care at Barton Health’s Family Birthing Center. With an average of 300 babies born annually, ensuring access to state-of-the-art equipment and expert care is more than a goal — it’s a necessity.

In 2019, the Foundation raised more than $90,000 to support one powerful mission: keeping mothers and newborns together at Barton Health. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve funded critical upgrades including a new ultrasound machine, specialized infant IV and feeding equipment, ongoing education for nurses caring for high-risk patients, and 24/7 lactation support for new moms.

This philanthropic investment continues to make a profound difference — strengthening families and improving outcomes for mothers and babies throughout the Lake Tahoe region.”

Robert Maloff Center

The state-of-the-art, 26,000-square-foot Barton Center for Orthopedics & Wellness was made possible through the extraordinary generosity of two visionary donors — a $10 million gift from Lisa Maloff, in memory of her husband Robert, and a $1 million gift from the late Dr. Paul Fry, II.

At the heart of Barton Health’s mission is prevention, education, and whole-person care. The Robert Maloff Center brings that vision to life — uniting world-class orthopedics and rehabilitation with performance-based sports training and integrative wellness, all under one roof.

This innovative model is transforming healthcare in the Lake Tahoe region, empowering individuals to lead healthier, more active lives while strengthening the well-being of our entire community.

Barton Community Health Center

With support from the Barton Health Foundation, the expansion of the Barton Community Health Center is helping meet the growing healthcare needs of our region. The project added 10 new exam rooms, an expanded lab, and a larger, more welcoming waiting area — increasing both capacity and comfort for patients.

This modernized facility enhances patient experience and streamlines care, enabling providers to serve more individuals each day. Most importantly, the Barton Community Health Center ensures that uninsured, underinsured, or unemployed community members can access essential healthcare services at significantly reduced costs.

Thanks to philanthropic support, high-quality, compassionate care is now more accessible than ever — strengthening the health and resilience of our entire community.

Helipad

In 2001, the Barton Health Foundation transformed emergency care by investing over $1 million to build a dedicated helipad at the hospital. Before this critical upgrade, helicopters had to land in the hospital parking lot — an unsafe and inefficient process that required halting traffic and added precious minutes to urgent patient transport.

Today, the helipad remains a vital lifeline, enabling faster, safer air ambulance arrivals and departures — ensuring rapid access to advanced care when every second counts.

Level III Trauma Center

Thanks to philanthropic support from the Barton Health Foundation, Barton Health achieved its Level III Trauma Center designation — this status marks Barton as a critical access point, delivering faster, more advanced care when it matters most.

With over 20,000 Emergency Department visits annually — one-third involving traumatic injuries — the first hour after trauma, known as the “golden hour,” is often the difference between life and death.

When trauma calls come in, Barton’s specialized team — from doctors and surgeons to nurses and technicians — mobilizes within 15 minutes, providing lifesaving care that keeps more patients close to home and their families.

Ongoing investments in technology, staff training, and equipment, supported by the Barton Health Foundation, ensure Barton’s trauma program remains ready to save lives every day.
